When is it really worthwhile to speak out against crime, injustice, cruelty fraud, sham, or personal injury? Always? Never? Is the crime-rate really up--or down? What kind of crimes and persistent municipal local or regional social issues and injurious activities do 'we the people' need to be aware of, here in the 805? Can the political process help? Vigilante? When and how do our children learn about the complex laws, standards, and practices, by which we are held accountable, or legally prosecuted? Or, if we complain, where do we go to register our charges? How much does it cost to report and follow-up on a crime? Does the California and local law-enforcement community support each-and-every citizen in their reports of wrong-doing, or do some receive more favor and attention than others? Why do we need lawyers at very high hourly rates, to come forward regarding a matter of common mis-behavior, stealing, or assaults, professional neglect, mal-practice by doctors, financial irregularities? If a person is harmed or injured, or mis-treated significantly, in a non-legal or anti-social way, maybe at a party, on between neighbors living next-door to each other, some dispute---why is it better to hide it away, cover it up, 'don't rock the boat' (when the boat may be sinking)? If local officials and authorities, those in power over the lives of others, or paid very well, to handle public affairs---if they are questioned, or brought to account, or even charged with poor choices, bad behavior--how does this resolve in the day-to-day lives of we who live here? How long does it take to reveal a problem, when pride and egos are the first to conceal a wrong, instead of standing up to whatever may have been the true-or-false of---what? Financial scandals, great loss of personal investments? Street-crime, never prosecuted, never followed-up, never dealt with, but the victims limp away wounded, the perpetrators laugh and jitter with their hurts, we win, you lose? Business crimes? What about other kinds of wrongs and hurts, illegal---religious abusers? Hate-speech? Drug-sales? Domestic violence, never brought forward? College guys cheating on exams? Or corporate wrongs---laws and rules that favor the rich, but make life impossible for the poor? Huge wealthy companies buying up property, against the best-interests and wishes of locals? Government agreements and bargains with industries that reap huge profits, but destroy the Earth, or cause disease, like hard-liquor sales, tobacco, pornography? Is it wrong or painful to society when video-sales, video-games, films, Internet content, are filled with daily images of insane and mindless violence, bloody sometimes beyond belief? Not the news-headlines---but fiction, games, film-stories? Is it wrong and destructive to the social wellness of all, to foster hatred, venom, even worse, for some person, group or individual, and to do so anonymously, in public venues no one controls? Who am I? Why am I here? Gee, that's a nice car you got! Where is the burrito someone promised me?
