  • Off Leash Dog Beaches in Santa Barbara

The La Times published an interactive map of pooch friendly beaches around Southern California. Santa Barbara county is home to four off leash friendly beaches. On the list are Arroyo Burro Beach(aka Hendry's Beach), Butterfly Beach, Summerland Beach and Padaro Beach at Santa Claus Lane.

Arroyo Burro Beach aka Hendry's Beach

Arroyo Burro Beach - Santa Barbara, CA Arroyo Beach, just off Cliff drive, is Santa Barbara's premier dog beach. There are 2 parts to the beach, the east and west. The beach east of the slough is the off leash part. The west beach is on leash. The off leash part of Arroyo Beach is approximately 3/4 of a mile from the slough to the stairs at Mesa Lane. Try not to go at high tide as some parts of the beach become very narrow and may even become impassable. There is a parking lot that is free, but fills up quickly. Above the dog beach is the Douglas Family Preserve, a 70 acre off leash park that you can take a trail from the back of the parking lot at Arroyo Burro beach.

    Butterfly Beach

Butterfly Beach Butterfly Beach is located across from the Four Seasons Biltmore resort in upscale Montecito. Parking is free along Channel Drive, but limited especially on sunny weekends. The west end of the beach has cliffs and is a safe dog play location.
