By Nick Wilson -- A San Luis Obispo Superior Court jury was presented Friday with two views of homeless advocate Dan De Vaul: one of a man who broke the law after repeated warnings of code violations on his property, the other of someone trying to help an underserved community who was not liked by wealthy neighbors.De Vaul has pleaded not guilty to nine misdemeanor counts of violating building and safety codes at his Sunny Acres compound west of San Luis Obispo. It is a place for the homeless and recovering drug and alcohol addicts.His center has caused controversy for years, drawing the ire of influential neighbors such as former San Luis Obispo City Councilwoman Christine Mullholand and county code enforcers who have tried to clean up the grounds and deal with allegedly illegal housing there.
