Local Music?

I've been wanting to check out the local music scene and catch some good shows, but don't know where to start. Can anyone suggest some good venues that have decent line-ups? I'm open to any genre of music really, so anything is fair game.

Recently I have seen shows at Muddy Waters, the Mercury Lounge, and Yoga Soup. These are smaller venues, so they can get pretty packed, but I thought the bands were really good. Sprout and Little Owl played at the Mercury Lounge, they are pretty rockin' local bands.
